NARRATIVE - The Dog Collar

Narrative Feature

Title: The Dog Collar

Page Count: 92 pages

Project Status: In Development

Logline

In this lo-fi sci-fi horror comedy, an aspiring t-shirt designer and her fiancé agree to dog-sit for a fashion influencer only to discover that the dog’s collar has teleportation capabilities, leading to a series of comedic and horrific events that test their relationship and their lives.

Synopsis

Jess, a corporate employee with a t-shirt side hustle, volunteers to dog-sit for a fashion influencer named Annika in the Hamptons with her fiancé, Miles, hoping to get Annika to promote her brand. Jess believes her relationship could use the “vacation time” as well since Miles has been a bit disinterested in the wedding. Annika entrusts them with her dog, Charlie, who wears a collar with a GPS fence feature. As they settle into this new environment, Jess is surprised to find the app that manages the collar shows Charlie teleporting to distant locations like Nigeria and Prague, which Annika dismisses as the collar being “tweaked.” Before long it becomes clear that Charlie IS actually teleporting to these places.

Miles, intrigued by the technology, tests the collar on himself and finds the teleportation “amazing." He becomes obsessed with deciphering the collar's code to become rich. However, he soon begins to exhibit alarming physical and behavioral changes, including growing extra nipples, developing fur, and exhibiting dog-like actions and sounds. Jess tries to find out from the collar company what’s happening which makes Miles angry and paranoid. He grows increasingly erratic, hacking Jess's phone and quitting her job for her. As his transformation accelerates and his behavior turns aggressive, it becomes unclear who will come out of this alive–or transformed into a dog!
