ZURI OBI

Zuri is a Haitian-American filmmaker and educator based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Pushing against conventional forms of storytelling, Zuri and her team won both the Juried and Audience awards for Best Experimental Film at Blackstar Film Festival 2018 for co-creating and producing Fucked Like A Star, a short documentary.

Her work, which focuses on women’s lives, the Pan African diasporic experience and meditations on nature, has screened at several festivals including BAMcinématek, Afrikana Independent Film Festival and Festival d’Automne á Paris.

Zuri also teaches filmmaking to New Orleans youth through COOL Cooperative, a non-profit organization that provides youth with academic instruction, mentorship and hands-on training in the film industry.
