MATT NADEL

Writer, Producer, Director

I'm a documentary filmmaker focused on criminal and social justice issues. I also do some writing and narrative producing on the side.

My debut short doc, 120 YEARS, premiered at the Rhode Island International Film Festival and won Best Short Documentary at the Pan African Film Festival, the largest Black film festival in the U.S. Now, I'm working on a short doc called CANS Can't Stand, which traces the history of a transphobic Louisiana law and follows a grassroots, Black-trans-led movement fighting for that law's repeal.

I've enjoyed telling stories in collaboration with the New Orleans Video Access Center, where I worked as a Documentary Fellow, and The Politic, where I was Video Projects Editor. Born and raised in Florida, I'm a proud queer filmmaker and an alum of Yale University's American Studies program.
