MARIA SCARVALONE
Producer, Director
Brooklyn-based Maria Scarvalone is an award-winning, multi-platform journalist with thirty years’ experience as a producer and reporter in television, radio, and print. She’s currently pursuing an independent documentary project.
Over the years Maria has produced hundreds of television breaking news pieces, news magazine reports, and documentaries, mainly for foreign news broadcasters. As a radio reporter, Maria’s reports have won several awards, including a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award and a New York Press Club Award. She’s also written pieces for newspapers and websites, including The Washington Post and WNYC. In the course of her work, she’s interviewed everyone from politicians to celebrities to criminals (and sometimes all three in one).
Maria holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and is a Fulbright scholar. Following a love of all things international, she’s traveled extensively and is fluent in Italian, proficient in German, and able to get by in French, Spanish and Portuguese..
