Producer, Director, Researcher

Katie Mathews is a filmmaker and ethnographer based in New Orleans. With experience in production management, editing, and writing, her primary passions are producing & directing documentary work. Katie directed and produced Post Coastal, a series of documentary shorts about coastal communities’ response to land loss in Louisiana.

She is currently producing Silent Beauty, an experimental personal documentary in pre-production about child sexual abuse; In a Wild State, a documentary feature in production that follows a conservation project in the Australian Outback; and Mossville, a documentary feature in post production that explores the psychological trauma of community displacement at the hands of the petrochemical industry. Katie teaches Research Methods at Tulane University where she also leads a seminar to address sexual assault on campus.

Prior to film, Katie worked at IDEO, where she led qualitative research, using stories to design new systems. Katie holds a BA in Communications from Northwestern University and and has completed continuing education work at Duke University’s Center for Documentary Studies and in cultural anthropology at the University of Chicago.
