Fall 2019 season applications for NYC are open!  Applications are due by August 5, and our season begins the week of September 3 (after Labor Day).

We will be hosting a pre-season Open House event for prospective new members on Tuesday, July 30, 7pm, at Manhattan’s LGBTQ Center (208 W 13th Street, New York, NY 10011). We encourage all prospective applicants to attend. RSVP here.

**For Filmshop NOLA applications, please click here.**

Before you apply, please note:

  • We ask that you be actively working on a project you’d like to workshop with the group. (Questions about what this means? See the Current Work section of the application below, or read more here.)

  • Dues for the season are $175. We don't want concerns about money to keep you from applying. We offer a few slots at a discount for those who are unemployed or underemployed; priority is given to artists from communities that are underrepresented in the industry. If you are interested in applying for discounted fees, reach out to us.

  • For the second round of the application process, strong applicants may be asked to speak with a current Filmshop member, either at our pre-season open house, or via a phone or Skype call.

  • Filmshop members are expected to miss no more than 4 meetings per season (this means they must attend 11 out of 15 of their chapter's weekly meetings). Meetings take place on weeknights, 7:30 to 10:00.

We look forward to learning more about you!

If you have any questions, or would like to schedule a visit to one of our workshop meetings, feel free to email us at contact@thefilmshop.org

... as fully and accurately as possible in 140 characters.
We strive for diversity in our membership and encourage applications from filmmakers from underrepresented communities. Please include any additional information about yourself you'd like to share here (e.g., filmmaker of color, international filmmaker, etc.).
What is your experience or background in film / video?
What project do you plan to workshop with the group? (Note: Your project can be any genre (doc, narrative, experimental, animation, interactive media), and can be workshopped in almost any form - a treatment, a storyboard, an animatic, a script, a rough cut, etc. But it should meet the following requirements: It should still be open to revisions (i.e. not a locked or final cut); you have started working on it (a treatment is fine, but a vague idea that’s barely a concept is difficult to workshop); you have some creative authorship; and it should not be work for hire.
What do you hope to accomplish by workshopping this project this season, and how can this project benefit from constructive feedback?
Where do you see yourself in the next 2 to 5 years?
As part of this application, we'd like to see some work samples. (Note: this does not need to be the same project you plan to workshop. Just show us some of your strongest work.) Please provide links to your professional or personal work online, including any passwords. You can also provide a screenplay sample. Please send any writing samples as an attachment to contact@thefilmshop.org with your first and last name in the subject heading and the words "writing sample", and enter "sending writing sample" below.
What skills, equipment, or resources would you be willing to share with the collective; would you be able to give a workshop or talk on a specific subject, etc?
Workshop participants are expected to attend on a regular basis. You may miss no more than 4 out of 15 weekly meetings. Do you foresee any problems meeting this requirement?
Which chapter are you applying to? (Each chapter meets once per week from 7:30PM to 10PM.)
