Synopsis
n the near future, a dying world teeters on the edge of nuclear war. Thirty-something loner Ray Capistrano moves through New York City separate from everything and everyone until one day he encounters an extraterrestrial entity that alters his perception of time and space. Soon, Ray experiences inexplicable mood swings and visions – windows into the life of a mysterious woman. Tracking her down using their connection, Ray soon meets Maya, who introduces him to the Collective, a group who share the same telepathic emotional bond.
The Collective regularly enter the astral plane to commune with the Orb – a metaphysical ball of light that strengthens their psychic abilities while reducing its side effects – guided by Professor Stone, a non-telepath who uses scientific means to study the group and enhance their abilities. While Maya and others work to open up a closed off Ray, he struggles to maintain his normal life, growing overwhelmed by the emotions among the Collective. But as he and Maya grow closer, Ray learns to be open and vulnerable, and eventually succeeds in making contact with the Orb.
When the Collective learns of Stone's secret plan to spread their ability to all humanity, discord ensues, and Ray abandons the group. However, as Ray and Maya's blossoming love ripples through the Collective, Ray learns to love himself and others completely. Convinced of the love it would bring to a world that so desperately needs it, Ray returns, and the Collective simultaneously touch the Orb with Stone's help, achieving metanoia – activating latent psychic abilities across the entire human race.
