NARRATIVE - Guy Scouts
Narrative Series
Title: Guy Scouts
Page Count: 36 pages
Project Status: In Development
Logline
During one of the longest government shutdowns in American history, four 40-something buddies focus on the most important work conceivable: becoming Eagle Scouts.
Synopsis
Serialized 1/2 hour single-cam dramedy. When some people hit a wall of impotent grief, they turn to crocheting. Bird watching. Late night doom scrolling. When federal employee Jack Pershing's Peruvian wife and their children leave DC during the 2025 government shutdown to avoid the rise of ICE, he turns to the one American institution he remembers fondly: the Boy Scouts.
Along with his childhood best friend Cris, his best work friend Antony, and his coworker Martin, these Peter Pans are looking for something bigger than looking the other way.
Something with merit badges.
Together, they stumble through the seven ranks of Boy Scouts into a new sense of civic responsibility while the world is crumbling around them.
To help other people at all times.
A workplace comedy when the office is closed by the US government. Each episode follows Jack, Antony, Cris or Martin as they navigate current-day DC together and alone. Imagine if the Widow’s Bay mayor went camping with the ensemble from Sterlin Harjo's Reservation Dogs. Like those Apple & FX ensemble hits, it’s f*cking funny.
It’s not easy to do, but a Scout always tries.
Guy Scouts asks what are American men capable of when they actually start acting like Boy Scouts?
Additional Project Info
A Quarter-Finalist for Filmmatic's Season 6 Screenplay award, this dramedy is a direct response and record of America's ongoing love affair with nature and con men.
