GALIH SAKTI
Writer, Director
Galih Sakti is a queer Javanese Indonesian artist, educator, and filmmaker based in New York City. His practice bridges visual art, mural-making, and documentary film to amplify stories often silenced by colonial and heteronormative histories. With experience teaching youth, he uses art as a tool for education, empowerment, and collective storytelling. Galih’s work centers on decolonizing Southeast Asian narratives by reclaiming indigenous and queer traditions once celebrated but later suppressed through colonization.
Through murals, he creates spaces where communities see themselves reflected, and through film, he uplifts Indonesian stories that are often forgotten or overlooked. His art is both resistance and remembrance, an act of cultural survival and a way to imagine futures rooted in justice, pride, and belonging.
