Deboleena Maitra

Born in Queens, New York, Deboleena spent her childhood in the American South, then moved to Kolkata (Calcutta), India, in her early teens. Having adapted to new environments growing up, she relates to children's vital need for imagination. This is why she enjoys directing them. She has directed and collaborated on films across the United States, Singapore, India, and the United Arab Emirates.
With her upcoming feature debut, THE FIREFLY IN THE JAR, she participated in the 2020 Athena Film Festival at Barnard College Virtual Writers Lab. The script received faculty sponsorship for NYU's The Purple List 2021. The NYU Production Lab advanced the project for interviews in rigorous review for their 2021 Slate of projects to fund. It is now in the second round of consideration for Sundance Institute's 2022 Development Track. Deboleena is a graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts with an MFA in Film Production.
