ANDREA CLAIRE MORNINGSTAR

Producer, Director

Andrea Claire Morningstar is a filmmaker living and working in both Detroit, Michigan and New Orleans, Louisiana. She has an MFA in Film from University of Wisconsin and a BFA in New Genres from University of Michigan.

Andrea is an Emmy nominated commercial Director and Producer (Motorcity Horseman) and her work as a documentary Producer has won two Emmy awards. Her audio documentary My Pen Pal, about a young girl’s unlikely friendship with a demonized leader of a foreign nation, became a feature story on This American Life. Her work has exhibited at festivals and galleries internationally. Andrea has been teaching filmmaking at Interlochen Arts Camp since 2006, and in 2010 she established the documentary film major there. In 2014, she founded Final Girls, a Knight Arts Challenge award winning collective of women filmmakers in Detroit, Michigan.

Across mediums and genres, Morningstar tells stories that have a palpable intimacy between maker and subject. Her short films, photographs and installations call for a greater degree of vulnerability between the observer and the observed in art and in life.
