Director, Cinematographer, Colorist
Joseph Overbey is a Brooklyn based director, cinematographer and motion picture colorist. Whether shooting a narrative or documentary, he aspires to create every frame as a celebration of light, color, and life. With formal training in both still photography and the art of cinema, his visual style is inspired by a life of whimsical curiosity.
Overbey has DoP’ed several independent narrative films that have been selected by festivals such as, The Oregon Short Film Festival, The Brooklyn Horror Film Festival & Toronto’s Inside Out Film Festival.
Overbey has been an active member of Filmshop, a nonprofit collective of independent filmmakers, since 2018. He was selected to join Filmshop Studio, Brooklyn’s first cooperative film studio in 2019.
Overbey is currently in post production on his first documentary feature, "The Spirit of Japan", which chronicles the work and daily life of a family running a small shochu distillery in rural Southern Japan.
