James is a non-fiction director based in a part of Brooklyn that we all thought was totally gentrified by now but finds a way to just keep on going. He does what he can to elevate community voices and embed audiences in community lives through documentary storytelling.
James' 60-part web series, "1 Minute Meal," uses food to reveal the dreams, realities, and unseen forces that shape life in New York City. His first documentary feature, “Nothing With Something” follows the final days of a six-seat diner, whose values are broken by the challenges of running a small business in the 21st century. As a 2018 Made in NY Fellow, James has assembled AAPI emerging talents in audio storytelling to launch “Self Evident,” a documentary-style podcast that takes on what it means to be American by telling Asian America's stories.
