Since graduating from Columbia University's MFA filmmaking program in 2012, Ben has created an interdisciplinary body of work playing with the boundaries of family and community storytelling. His short films have screened at dozens of festivals worldwide, been viewed 750,000 times online, and have been distributed internationally via Shorts International's Shorts.tv arm. His scripts have placed or advanced in competitions and grants including the Nicholls, Sundance/Sloan, PAGE, Bluecat, Cinestory and many others, and have been developed with producers and companies in Los Angeles and New York. His debut musical theater project EMMA DARE, developed with theater veterans Benjy Shaw and David Dabbon, was workshopped at the Finger Lakes Festival in 2015, and his debut graphic novel, Identity, is scheduled to be published next year.
When he's not writing, Ben works with Sundance-winning auteur Patrik-Ian Polk and Oscar-winning auteur Peter Hedges as a story editor, volunteers at Brooklyn charter schools as a college coach, and plays mediocre covers of 90s alt-rock singles in his basement.
